A free drop-in clinic raising awareness about mouth cancer and the importance of routine dental check ups has raised £1,150 for Cancer Relief today, with more donations still coming in.
Rates of the disease are on the rise around the world, with figures from the Mouth Cancer Foundation revealing that more than half of cases in the UK are diagnosed at a late stage.
Figures also show that mouth cancer disproportionately affects men and the majority of diagnoses occur in older adults.
Katy Docker spoke to Midtown Dental Therapist Amy Mesilio who said early detection is vital in improving your chance of survival.
She held the awareness day in honour of the sister of a close friend, who lost her life to cancer last year.
